!!News/Updates !!

Great news!!! The 2008 cherry crop is ripening as I write this. We expect to pick the first cherries on Friday June 13th. We will have ripe cherries at The Ashe County Farmer's Market on Saturday June 14th. We hope to see you there. Expect cherries on about 3 consecutive Saturdays, if we are lucky.

It's May 27th 2008 and the cherries are coming along fine! We will have a moderate crop this year unless
a very late frost happens. I expect the cherries to be ripe in about 2 weeks.

Well, April 18th and I think the cherries have survived! We were lucky. Being slightly elevated on a ridge we dropped down to about 29 one morning but only for about an hour or so. The blossoms look okay but we'll see. Who knows what the temperatures will do next week or the next.......

Hello. Here it is April 2008!! The cherry trees are in full bloom and right on schedule we are expecting frost/freeze temperatures for the next 2 to 3 mornings. Cherries, plums and probably peaches will most likely take a beating.

I was right!!! The 2007 cherry crop has been lost. Frozen!!. We had 2 consecutive mornings with temperatures in the teens. 15 degrees and 18 degrees. Several inches of snow, high winds and sub 20 degree temps--The strain was more than they could bear. There was much damage to plants and trees. Oh, well, maybe next year.

A tough spring morning in Ashe!

Unfortunately, it appears that the cherry crop will probably be destroyed this year. Currently, April 04, the cherry trees are in heavy and full bloom. The weather forecast calls for a series of 5 to 6 days and nights of low temperatures around 20 degrees and snow showers off and on. If this comes to pass, then the cherries will certainly be lost for 2007. We will keep you posted as the days pass.
